Types of EV chargers: which one did you get?
When you purchase an electric vehicle, you will get one of three main chargers. Each is suited to different needs.
Level 1 chargers:
Standard home outlets
A Level 1 charger uses a standard 240V home outlet. They’re ideal for those who drive short distances and can charge their vehicle overnight.
While these chargers are the slowest, they’re easy to set up without additional installation requirements.
Level 1 chargers are perfect for occasional EV users or those with low daily mileage.
- Time to add 100 km of range: ~8 hours
- Range from 10 mins of charging: ~4 km
Level 2 chargers:
Faster home or workplace chargers
Level 2 chargers provide faster charging speeds and typically require professional installation.
These chargers also use a 240V power source but deliver higher amperage. This significantly reduces charging time compared to Level 1.
Level 2 chargers are ideal for daily EV users or households with multiple electric vehicles.
They offer a more efficient and convenient solution for home or workplace use.
- Time to add 100 km of range: ~2–3 hours
- Range from 10 mins of charging: ~14 km
Level 3 chargers:
DC fast chargers
Level 3 chargers, also known as DC (direct current) fast chargers, are the fastest option. This type of charger is what you’d commonly find at public charging stations.
They can charge your EV in as little as 30 minutes (depending on the vehicle and battery size.)
These chargers require specialised equipment and are typically used for commercial or public charging infrastructure.
If you’re looking for ultra-fast charging, Level 3 may be the solution, though it’s not usually installed in homes.
- Time to add 100 km of range: ~15–30 minutes
- Range from 10 mins of charging: ~50 km

This is my second time using RePare Electrical and will use again. Turned up when said. Used well known branded materials. Knowledgeable and let know of upcoming changes in legislation (smoke detectors). Left work area clean. Couldn’t ask for any better MaryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We asked Repare to complete a list of jobs needed including installing outdoor PowerPoint, changing toilet exhaust fan, giving us new switch in toilet to choose light and/or exhaust (rather than one switch turning on both), and 15amp power outlet in garage. All done! We had one more ask about Lights and they were super honest in what could/could not be done..which is excellent that we had a choice to not do it rather than feel pressured for the work. Service was excellent, jobs all quality. Thanks to Richard who did our work. Will definitely use again.
